31X Series

ERS-311, 312, & 31L

The 3 series is the third generation of AIBO, released in September of 2001.

Marketed as a budget model, they retailed for ~$850 compared to the ~$2,500+ the other models went for.

They lack a back and chin sensor, and have a movement-based internal head sensor - push the dog's head down to praise, and up to scold.

The 3 series tail is a joystick, capable of praising/scolding and changing the mode the dog is in.

311 and 312 dogs are functionally the same, with the exception of AIBO Friend, which makes the 312 more mischievous while the 311 is more mellow. This was removed in the English release, AIBO Pal, which makes all dogs act under the 311 behavior.

The 31L released later, in 2002. While their main body is the same, their head is much more pug-like, with shorter ears and a flatter nose.
